Theres a double picture but it wont let me remove it. In the pics I still had 3 inches of clearance but I was satisfied knowing I could turn as far as I did. I can almost turn 90deg and this is obviously a Megacab short bed. I had pre measured everything but you never know until everything is in place!Īs you can see, plenty of clearance between the Goose Box and the fuel tank, I have right at 6 inches of bed clearance which I may get a ball with extra height if I think its necessary later.
I snapped a couple pics, sorry they are a little dark but just snapped them while I was checking turn ability and clearance to the tank. Most likely because of no chucking at all. It rode very nice, no chucking and the airbag and shocks I dare say was better than the trail air. The gen2 Goose box is nice, has holes to mount the chains and another set to hang them when they arent being used. My son and I got it swapped out with no problems. The Goose Box is a heavy sucker, well about the same as the Trail Air was, but most of the weight felt like is was on one end.
I had a Trail Air pin box which I had no issues with but I wanted to put the 75 gallon aux tank in and free up some weight and bed space by dumping the 5th wheel. PS: I am thinking about installing air bags on my truck, but not sure I really need them with the trailer I have now.Got in the Goose Box for my Dutchmen Voltage. If you would like to talk to me, private message me with your phone number and I will call you. All that is involved in moving it to another trailer is removing a couple of bolts. I guess it is just what a person wants, I am very happy with mine, and will continue to use it if I move up to a Big Horn or Landmark which I may. Andersen has a $5,000,000 insurance policy in case a frame company tries to blame frame failure on their hitch.
I guess it is because the trailer frame is engineered to attach to the truck up high, and when using the Andersen hitch, the trailer doesn’t know there is anything different, no unusual stress. I don’t know about the goose box you are talking about. I have heard that a regular goose neck extender can cause stress on the trailer frame and cause frame damage. I think the rail mount hitch which I have is cheaper than the goose mount hitch. I purchased it from Amazon or Tweety’s because it was cheaper than the Ford dealer. To use it in my Ford, I had to get a Reese 30156 “picture frame” rail mount box to attach to the bed of the truck. My Ford F350 DRW has their in bed 5th wheel tow prep package which I think is similar to what you have, and since I had purchased my Andersen hitch to replace my Reese 16K hitch in my old truck, I had to get the rail mount version of the hitch. Oh yeah and no more struggling with lifting in and out about the 200 lbs of the adapter and hitch into the bed every time we went somewhere, now it's just a drop in gooseneck ball, connect the 2 chains and were rolling!!!! I can say it was an all around good investment, allowing me to increase my traveling range and easy access to necessary tools in the invent something happens. The ride felt like it was an improvement, as there appeared to be less chaulking and bumping coming from the trailer transferred into the truck frame as the hitch airbags that are built in holding 50 PSI appeared to be doing what they were designed to do.
Outside of the need to drill and the weight there was no issues at all and the total install time was about 3-4 hours. We could only put 3 bolts in as one of the holes was off on each side and we had to drill the through the frame using a 13/16 drill bit to allow the bolt to fit. Once in place is was a whole lot more manageable and bolted up the 6 of the 8 required grade 8 hardware bolts (3 per side), it's just getting it up and holding in place to slide bolts in to hold it that's difficult, but this can be overcome easily with more people. The two of us lifted it up and installed one bolt each side to hold it in place. The only challenge of the install of the Goose box is the wight (150lbs) and awkwadness of the size. The install went relatively simple, removed the 10 bolts on the original pin box, and it slid right out it's not too heavy about 40 Lbs, easily managed with 2 people. So I wanted to share some photos and give some feedback on the Reese Goosebox that I installed over the weekend. Hello all, I needed some extra room in my bed of the truck and wanted to do away with the Dodge factory Picture frame adapter and reese hitch to make a little room for my 60 gallon Fuel Cell / Toolbox combo.
